Reading John ch10 v 1-24 followed by a talk from Simeon Carter given during the St.Georges SIX service on the 11th August 2019. Jesus knows His sheep by name, both Jews and Gentiles, and they know him personally and listen to Him. By putting ourselves first (i.e. sin) we have been separated from God, but by Jesus's sacrificial death He saves (from suffering and death) all who believe and brings a new body and eternal spiritual life with God the Father. Read the Bible to be immersed in Jesus's voice.

Christine looks at the context of the I am the Good Shepherd saying of Jesus in the wider context of the use of sheep and shepherd imagery in the OT and NT. Here it precedes His criticism of the Jewish Religious leadership in leading the people of Israel astray - a not uncommon criticism to be found in the OT. He is the shepherd who values and leads his people and they know his voice. Christine considers how we are to know Christ's voice amongst the current multitude of noise.

God sees our sin and loves us regardless - so don't be afraid of being exposed by the Light. Sometimes doubt and bad things stop us when we try to do good things, so don't let your Light be blocked. Light guides us and when we have Jesus we radiate that Light to others.

John sets Jesus' saying "I am the light of the world" in the context of the festival of tabernacles in the temple where large lamps were lit shining both within the temple and to the outside world. Jesus is the light for Jews but also for the whole world as set out in the prophesies of Isaiah. Shadows cast by the light are strongest the nearer we are to the light, so we who want to stand close to Jesus are more aware of the darkness and need to turn to him and reflect the light effectively to the world.

Reading John ch6, v32-40, v29 included in a talk by Rev Nico Hilding Ohlsson given during the St.Georges SIX service on the 29th July 2019. Material success or comforts do not guarantee a loving ongoing relationship but can fill our lives and then leave us empty, devoid of that human need that only Jesus can satisfy. Think of ways to spend time with God (pray, read, sing) and let Him guide us and nourish our souls to find a new exciting adventure.
