After a 5 hour delay at Heathrow, we finally arrived in Nairobi at mid-day on Wednesday to be met by Evans Oywa, Tom Abungu, Tom Onyango & Samwel Ouma. The main party spent 24hrs in Nairobi visiting a safari park whilst Bob, Evans & the 2 Toms travelled to Yala, our final destination for week one.
We arrived in Ulumbi on Thursday afternoon, the main party having taken an internal flight to Kisumu, and were met by Mama Eunice and a whole team of Kenyan hosts who are catering for our every needs.
Over the weekend we held our first Youth Conference based at Rianna’s Furaha Children’s Home, Yala – organised by Eddward Wata, the manager at Rianna’s. A series of talks given by Bob & Martin, with worship and drama by the team, all mingled with Kenyan worship, all made a wonderful first day of ministry.
On Sunday the ‘morning’ service began at 9.30 and ended after 2pm … a little different from worship in Ashtead! But it was vibrant, lively & God met us through His Word and the worship of His people. Again Martin & Bob spoke at the service. Sunday afternoon was chill-out time with a visit to the local waterfalls – ended rapidly as the heavens opened to a deluge of rain & hail! We managed to get back to the church compound before the road turned to a mud-slide!
We thank God for safety in travel and good health. Everyone is enjoying being here and especially enjoying the warmth and hospitality of gthe Kenyan people. Mungu ni mwama! God IS good. |
