Stephanie Elstub, from our church family, at ‘House’ and St Giles’ 10am congregation, is the youngest team member now in Kenya on a Wheelchair distribution with Wheels for the World. She is in a team of 13, including her mum, Alexa, and is helping with the distribution of 160 wheelchairs to Nakuru in the Rift Valley Province of Kenya. More from Stephanie soon.
Stephanie and her sister Emily and their fellow students, Grace, Alicia, Olivia and Emily, won the vote for the Junior School charity of the year at the City of London Freemen’s School. They gave a moving Powerpoint presentation about Wheels for the World, to their classes, year groups and finally the whole of the Junior School. Pupils, staff and parents went on to raise an amazing £13,000 of much needed funds. Glenda Pike, Wheels for the World Co-ordinator, myself and Pastor Davis Gatua from Nakuru in Kenya were privileged to receive the cheque at the end of term.
Other Ashtead fundraising events this year have included the Lent Wheelchair scheme, saving £1 a day for the 40 days of Lent, raising over £4,400, and our stall at Ashtead Village Day raising almost £900. Tim Wood, CEO of Through the Roof (of which Wheels for the World is an overseas programme), would like to pass on his gratitude for all the time, effort and money raised – “We appreciate it is a real team effort – thank you all”.
