When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place.
“Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. (John 13:12)
We visited a delightful man who was moving into a flat from supported housing. He was open about his past problems with alcohol addiction and that he had lived in a tent by the M25.
The flat was completely empty.
We chatted about what he required, which was everything.
His support worker asked the question “What about funding?”. The reply “This is God’s work. It’s all free”
The next day a full Besom van arrived. A new volunteer from a church in Cobham joined us and he was very strong.
A bed with new bedding and towels
Bed side table
Folding table and four chairs
Nest of coffee tables
Nathan Television cabinet
Nathan Side cabinet and mirror
A range of kitchen and sundry other items.
Unexpectedly we picked up the Nathan television cabinet that morning. God had even done the matching.
The recipient was a bit stunned but said how blessed he felt. This was a new start and already relations with his ex wife and children were improving. We left an empty flat which had become a home, but we would be back with the curtains.
In washing the disciples' feet, Jesus gave them an example of how they should live, and told them that if they would serve others, they would be blessed.
"Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them." (John 13:17)
