Ashtead Mothers' Union Autumn Report

mu logoIn June about 10 of us went to the Fairfield Halls, Croydon for the Mothers’ Union General meeting to which 1500 people attended from all over the world and this country. It was a privilege to share information and news with so many people. Delegates came from Africa, Australia, New Zealand, South America and Europe to name but a few. Rosemary Kempsell, our Worldwide President, Reg Bailey, our Chief Executive and our 4 Unit Co-ordinators  gave presentations of the work and achievements of Mothers’ Union over the last year. We heard from some of the overseas presidents, who had travelled so far to attend this meeting, and the Conference which followed at Canterbury.   As Branch Leader I feel one of my priorities is to make people aware in this Parish of the excellent work carried out by our organization.

Having enjoyed a busy 6 months of meetings, members, friends and visitors attended our Annual Communion Service at the newly refurbished St Giles’ Church. This was followed by a delicious  afternoon tea.

We joke about our tea parties, but it is very apparent that many people of all ages enjoy a good cuppa and a piece of homemade cake, together with sandwiches, and scones, jam and cream. Whatever else people do not know about us, they DO know they will be well fed!! Thanks to everyone’s generosity during the afternoon we were able to give £280 to Martin Dyer to split between ACCT and the Youth and Children’s Teams’ work.

We are now looking forward to our Autumn  programme

On 24th September Shirley Edghill, Head of Patient Experience at Epsom Trust, will be talking on “Impoving Patient Experience at the Trust”. Sheila Sealby will be presenting her with 60 amenity bags for emergency admissions.

On 22nd October our own Pam Malone will tell us about her “Memories of Bletchley Park”.

On 26th October another home speaker Mark Haustead talking about “My first Year as Verger”.

Ashtead Mothers’ Union will again be running the cake stall at the Worldwide Charities Fair on 14th November, and will be raffling a decorated Christmas cake, as well as selling loads of treats and mince pies that can be frozen for Christmas.

Please come and join us at some of the above meetings, everyone is welcome, including MEN!!!
