Wheelchairs Not Chocolate - Lent 2009

Saving £1 a day for the 40 days of Lent – to raise money to sponsor a wheelchair for Wheels For The World – at exactly £40 each - what a brilliant correlation! That is what 46 generous Ashtead supporters undertook during Lent this year, raising £1,840 plus £22 extra donations (£2 of which was from someone who ate chocolate twice!). A HUGE thank you to you all.   The 46 wheelchairs, renovated by prisoners in Parkhurst Prison, will transform the lives of disabled people in developing countries, including Kenya (which Wheels visited this March), Ethiopia (visited in May) and Ghana (to be visited in November). We are especially pleased that Ashtead has beaten the credit crunch to achieve an annual Lent record – 4 more wheelchairs than last year. The wheelchairs were sponsored by individuals, couples, families, a House Group, and also in the memory of loved ones, an especially lovely idea.
