Skate Park Opens in Ashtead
After two years in the planning, Ashtead Skate Park opened in Ashtead this week. Opening the Skate Park, Chairman of The Ashtead Skate Park Partnership, County Councillor Tim Ashton thanked the main sponsors: Mole Valley District Council, Surrey County Council, Thomas Flack Trust Fund and The Rotary Club of Ashtead.
Over 50 youngsters braved the weather to attend the opening giving an impromptu demonstration of their skills. Two of the BMX riders and members of the Partnership Max Whichter and Dan Relton described the new Park as "Awesome and so much better than anything locally!" Max’s mother Rosie arranged fruit drinks donated from her Company A.G.Barr plc and Domino’s Pizza supplied free pizzas for all the riders and skaters.
Tim Ashton said "it really was a community event with parents and youngsters, local Youth Officers and Ashtead Councillors all mixing, we are not finished yet however as skaters and parents alike have asked for seating alongside the Park so a new fundraising campaign is going to be arranged."
The skate ramps made out of skatelight ramarmour were specially chosen as they contain a triple layer surface which absorbs sound much more than other surfaces together with the sides being perforated adding to the sound deflection.
