Having a BLArST!

From ‘Abba’ to ‘The Cult’, Wizzard to Eric Clapton, St George’s Church was transported back to the 70s and 80s on Saturday 10 May.

Jo and Terry Sherring organised a fantastic Tribute Night for ‘Wheels for the World’ raising an amazing £2,070.

Many people dressed in style, Eileen Sutherland, Wheels team leader, who had hot-footed it off the plane from Kenya that morning, gave us a moving talk about Wheels before we enjoyed food together, prepared by our wonderful kitchen girls.

Roy Orbison, aka Terry Sherring and ‘Abba’, aka Lucy Bennett and Lizzie Hawksfield, kicked off the evening in style.

With a change in tempo the stage was transformed as the boys in the youth team appeared as ‘The Cult’ - and were brilliant!

As if that wasn’t enough we were in for a treat when the main band BLArST made up of John Brewer, Vocals, Chris Lovegrove, Bass, Alison and John Anderson, Keyboard and Guitar, richard Wadey on Sound, Meghan Searle, Vocals, and Ian Thain on Drums, entertained us with a mixture of 70s and 80s numbers.

We all danced the night away, conga and all – and after an encore, BLArST took their bows and the church was transformed back again ready for the service on Sunday.

A huge thank you to all those who spent hours practising and giving so generously of their time and money, to make this such a memorable event. The money raised will help transform the lives of many disabled people in Kenya.
